D197 | Jeweled | Multi Floral Rayon Crepe
Known today solely as a manufacturer of high quality rhinestone jewelry, Eisenberg started in 1914 as a wholesaler of ladies' clothing. According to Caroline Rennolds Milbank in 'New York Fashion,' Irma Kirby was their designer, with occasional label credit. Eisenberg often included costume jewelry on their dresses. As many of these pieces were stolen off the racks, Eisenberg realized there was a market, and launched its famous jewelry line in the 1930s.

By the 1940s, the line was carried in most American cities. Eisenberg continued to use the narrow 1940s line and typical 1940s draping once the New Look arrived. Eisenburg stopped making clothing in 1958. The jewelry continues to be made today. ~ Information courtesy of the Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource.

Simply stunning, with a gorgeous, vivid floral print on lightly textured silk crepe. (See close-ups for best depiction of colors.)

The v'd neckline flows into the gathered bodice that is emphasized by the empire waistline.

The flow-y, drape-y skirt is cut longer at the back than the front.

The matching jacket is liberally sprinkled with sparkling rhinestones in complementary hues of blue, red, yellow and green, which are matched to the flowers on which they appear.
The rhinestones appear at the front and back of the jacket and at the sleeves. The sleeves are one layer of silk; the rest of the jacket is two layers. The sleeves close at the wrists with snaps.

The dress closes at the back with a long metal zipper and a hook and eye; the jacket closes with two buttons just above the waist.

Exquisite colors, fabric and workmanship. You won't find another set like this!

Condition:

Very Good. This set is in absolutely amazing condition, with no silk shattering or fading. There is a 5-inch long mend at the back of the neck which is extremely hard to see (remember my close-ups are magnified). The woman I got this set from told me that when she got it, there was not a tear but an actual cut at the back of the neckline and she repaired it. It certainly could have been done better, but as I said, it blends in very well and I would be surprised if anyone ever saw it. Other than that, wow!

This beautiful set was dry-cleaned before storage and should be cleaned again. I like my cleaners, but I don't trust them with this set.
