Victorian Antique Hand Painted Flowers Porcelain Brooch Large
What a pretty treasure! Brooches like this are from the late 1800s, early 1900s and were often made as a gift for someone special, lovingly hand-painted. This beauty has a lovely creamy peach background and the blue flowers with yellow and red centers are "forget-me-nots"; it's made even more special by the artist's signature, "Mirle". I'm certain this gift was not forgotten! The flowers are in a bouquet of green leaves, with little blue buds appearing as well. Gold paint rims the porcelain disc, which is placed in a pronged brass setting and which closes at the back with a c-clasp. It is a beautiful little work of art, straight from the heart.
Condition:
Very Good. It is amazing to me how well-preserved the actual painting is! The colors seem to be as vibrant as the day they were painted; there is no paint loss or scratching on the picture; there is minor scratching on the gold edging but can only be seen upon closest inspection. The back of the brooch has discoloration and scratching, very common in these pieces. The clasp works perfectly and the porcelain disc is tight in its frame.
Measurements
Length: 2 & 5/8 inches
Width (widest point): 2 inches
