JIM THOMPSON Large Floral Thai Silk Scarf
I don't know the age of this scarf. I think if it didn't qualify as vintage when I got it, it does now because I have many, many scarves that I've collected for years and haven't listed, but I just can't be sure. Regardless..
This is a Jim Thompson scarf. The company is still doing business. Jim Thompson was a very interesting character. He was an architect. He was a spy during the Second World War. He founded the Thai Silk Company Ltd. and helped to revitalize the Thai silk industry in the 50's and 60's; he brought thousands of Thai people out of poverty. He disappeared in 1967 after going for a walk, it remains a mystery what happened to him.
This beautiful scarf is very BIG, 32" x 32". The first photo with it tied over my mannequin, shows this. The background color is a soft white and other colors include lots of vivid, earthy tones like blue, gray orange, maroon, greens, yellows... Beautiful botanical art. The silk feels brand new.
Condition:
Very Good. There are two tiny pinholes in the center of the scarf, they can only be seen when held to the light. A light smudge on the lower right side of the scarf, nearing the side border. Other than that, this scarf seems like it's never been worn.
