80s Vintage One-Shoulder Ruffled JILL RICHARDS Evening Dress 34b/28w
Jill Richards, who passed away in 2007, was an actress-turned-designer of figure-flattering evening wear. She was sometimes referred to as "Ruffles Richards", and well, this dress is surely a testament to that! You can get a good amount of information about Ms. Richards at THIS LINK to the Vintage Fashion Guild. This Richards dress was sold at Irene Sargent in Oakland. Irene was proprietor of one of the most expensive and elegant boutiques in the Bay Area. "Her posh downtown Oakland dress salon...provided shoppers with individually decorated fitting rooms, each of which had a telephone, three-way mirrors, chairs, custom-designed racks and artworks." (Information gleaned from an article at sfgate.com, written when she passed at age 90 in 1999).
This dress is jet black satin back crepe, done as a simple, slightly curvy sheath. Adorned with a black-trimmed white chiffon ruffle which extends all around the from the left shoulder, across the chest, around the back and up, which then travels down the left sleeve. The right arm and shoulder are completely bare, this dress is everything! A 21-inch slit travels up the left leg. Closes with a long zipper at the right side of the dress.
Condition:
Excellent. Appears to have been worn once (or never) and then stored. It has NOT been cleaned; cleaning is recommended, though it looks great and has no issues.
