60s 70s Rudi Gernreich Black & White Maxi Dress Small

X-Small, Small | Iconic | Black/White Acrylic
Rudi Gernreich was one of the most influential designers of our time; his youthful, funky, fun fashions defined the 60s. He liberated women's bodies from the constraints of tight, uncomfortable undergarments and uncomfortable clothing. He was awarded the coveted Coty Award for American Designers in 1960. You can find lots and lots of information about Rudi on the internet: he is as fabulous and interesting now as ever!

This dress incorporates several of the usual elements that Rudi Gernreich often used in his fashions: straight long skirt, narrow stripes, knit fabric. I love the slightly stretchy, form-fitting bare look of the top of the dress, which is styled like a tank. The long skirt is knit acrylic and features striping in different widths. Unlined, this great dress closes at the back with a long polyester zipper.

This dress looks as fresh today as it did when it was designed, it has remained youthful, fun and current. I've priced it lower than I normally would have because of the alteration at the hemline.

Very Good. The zipper was pulling away from the fabric near the bottom; this has been mended and is un-noticeable. It appears that the hem was let out and cut. It wasn't done very well, but it has been re-hemmed and is not noticeable when worn. I would have it professionally re-hemmed (or if you're handy with a needle, you could do it yourself, it's not a huge project and cannot be noticed when worn). A fantastic, sexy dress.
